Ram Type Milling & Boring Head

  • Ideal for replacing the existing worn out spindle heads of old Plano millers, Boring & Milling Machines.
  • Mounting flange of the unit is specially designed to suit to the existing machine.
  • The sleek ram, in combination with a detachable right angle head, permits machining of the inner walls of the housings which have narrow openings
  • Unique box type construction of the ram ensures least clearance between the sliding surfaces for the linear movement, thus ensuring a tight fit and the maximum rigidity. Inherently, the square sliding surfaces have extremely large contact area with the housing, thus ensuring maximum rigidity and the least vibrations during traverse and heavy material removal.
  • Spindle supported in the super finished ram bore with a well designed multiple bearing systems.
  • Sliding clearance of the ram is minimized to the least with the help of specially designed taper jibs.
  • Box type construction of the ram permits least clearance between the sliding surfaces.
  • Ram feed unit consists of a ball lead screw, box nut and the drive is through a VFD controlled motor and worm reduction gear box.
  • Spindle drive is through a gear system and a motor.
  • Offered with 5 HP to 30 HP spindle drive for a wide range of spindle speeds. Ram stroke offered upto 1.5 mtrs.
  • Linear accuracy: 15 microns on the entire ram movement. Spindle Accuracy: 10 microns on OD, ID & Face.

A ram type milling head in a converted Plano miller virtually throws innumerable possibilities like boring, grooving, facing etc, apart from all other normal milling operations. The sleek ram facilitates access to the cutter thru narrow, deep passages and perform almost all kinds of machining operations. Some of the major machining operations possible through ram, in combination with the hydraulically operated boring & facing head are shown in the following video links:
